Firstly how can I check that I can drive your motorhome?

As our vehicle is a luxury top end motorhome its weight is such that you will need a C1 category on your driving licence to drive our vehicle. You can check the back of your photo card licence. If you can drive a C1 rated vehicle it will show a date range, i.e. valid from and valid until. If you passed your driving test before 1st January 1997 you will automatically have the C1 category on your licence. Anyone who passed their test after 1st January 1997 will have to apply to a local testing agency to get this additional qualification on their licence. You must be between 25 and 75 with no more than 6 points on your licence. If you have more points don’t worry as we can check with our insurance if they will accept you, this will incur an additional charge.

Do I need insurance?

When we confirm a booking with you for vehicle hires this will include Comprehensive Insurance for drivers aged 25 to 75 with no more than 6 points (more points may be possible but our insurers will need to be informed and may charge extra). We highly recommend that you take out Holiday Cancellation cover as the Booking Deposit is non-refundable and non-transferable should you need to alter or cancel a booking.

Do I need to pay a damage deposit?

Yes. As with all motorhome hire companies there is a damage/insurance excess deposit to pay before the vehicle is release. As this is a top of the range Luxury Motorhome we do demand a £750 damage deposit/insurance excess in cleared funds before you collect the vehicle. This will be used should we to need to claim on our insurance and make good any damage to the vehicle, inside or out, any loss/damage of equipment that has occurred during your hire period. This will also be used to cover the costs of any damage to windscreen, wheels and tyres which is not covered by our insurance. We strongly recommend that you take out your own Damage Excess Insurance which means should we need to claim and use this deposit you will be able to claim all of this back from your damage excess insurers – as a family we have used Questor insurance many times and would recommend their policy https://www.questor-insurance.co.uk/motor-home-hire-insurance.aspx.

What time can I collect the vehicle?

Unless by prior arrangement please do not arrive earlier than 4pm on the collection day. This allows us to fully clean and service the vehicle before your hire. If it will be ready before 4pm on your collection date we will let you know. What time do I need to return the vehicle? Please ensure you hand back the motorhome unpacked and clean by 11am. Ensure all belongings are bagged up before your return. Please confirm return time the day before returning or the morning of the day of return so we can be sure to meet you. Please remember that our opening hours are 9am-5pm (though you can call outside of these times and we aim to reply within the hour). Collection Point 34 Selkirk Way, Chirton Grange, North Shields, Tyne and Wear, NE29 8DD alternatively if you wish to leave your car in our storage compound (at your own risk) please use this address Hartley Caravan Storage, Double Row, Seaton Delaval, Whitley Bay NE25 0PP, if using the storage address please advise us what time you will be arriving so that we can meet you.

Do we offer Insurance Excess Protector?

We do not offer an insurance excess/security protector as you can get much cheaper cover yourself online. However we would recommend taking out an ‘insurance excess reimbursement protector’ policy, with a third party insurer such as https://www.questor-insurance.co.uk/motor-home-hire-insurance.aspx.

Where will be store our luggage?

We recommend that you use soft bags/soft holdalls instead of your usual hard suitcases/luggage. These are not only more compact (remember space is limited inside the Motorhome so where will you stow all those large, empty suitcases!) bur far lighter and easier to manage. In our experience large, heavy luggage will cause damage when they move about when driving. Once you arrive at the motorhome you simply need to place your soft bags/soft holdalls in the motorhome and unpack when you reach your first destination. Once empty feel free to store the empty, folded bags under the dog kennel area. Please make certain that you have packed all your clothes and belongings back into the bags/holdalls before you rerturn the motorhome saving you time and allowing you to get away quickly.

Do we collect from Airport or City stations?

If you are coming to us via plane (Newcastle Airport) or train (Newcastle Central Station) we would advise getting a taxi outside Arrivals or the Central Station taxi rank which will cost between £20 to £30. This will be cheaper than booking a collection through us. Please remember unless with prior arrangement the motorhome collection time is 4pm. Please do not arrive earlier unless by prior agreement, as we may not be around to greet you. We can advise of alternative places to wait such as a coffee shops etc.
